Frequently Asked Questions

How much Sculptra do I need for my face?

Depends on how much volume you have lost in your face. General rule of thumb: one vial per decade of life. However, not every person in the same decade has the same amount volume. This is only a guideline. The number of injections depends on the degree of correction needed. We commonly use single syringes, multiple syringes or multiple vials depending on what we are trying to achieve. At Prestige Aesthetics Clinic, our trained specialist will consult with you to determine degree of correction needed and devise a treatment plan best suited for you.

Can Sculptra be used on neck or other parts of the body?

Sculptra is a great bio-stimulant which can be injected into other parts of the body if the skin is not in close proximity to bone. Recent studies indicate that areas with minimal support of tissue such as the neck and forehead are not appropriate injection sites. Sculptra can be injected into other parts of the body for volume loss such as focal areas of dimpling in legs for cellulite, for hip dips and in the buttocks for a butt lift.

I have heard Sculptra can be used in buttocks. Can you explain more?

Sculptra is a very safe and efficient way to enhance size of buttocks with minimal downtime. Contrary to fat transfers (which is main alternative for enhancing volume in buttocks) you can sit on buttocks after treatment with Sculptra. In fact, patients are instructed to massage injection sites post treatment. With fat transfer, on the other hand, pressure cannot be applied to treated area.
Patients are instructed not to sit on buttocks for at least one month post procedure. Sculptra in buttocks is a relatively comfortable procedure with minimal numbing and minimal discomfort to the patient. Sculptra works by gradually increasing size of connective tissue beneath the surface of the skin. For buttock enhancement, three vials per side are recommended.

Is the Sculptra reversible? What if I don’t like it?

Sculptra is not reversible. However, since Sculptra is injected in three sessions, patients have the opportunity to work with a trained specialist to gauge and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan based upon the amount of fibrous tissue built from previous treatment, patient’s expectations and volume deficit in area of treatment.

What are the side effects of Sculptra and how dangerous is it as an injectable in comparison to fillers?

Sculptra is a very safe procedure, much safer than fillers when it comes to vascular occlusion or any intravascular injection. Sculptra is composed of a Poly-L- lactic acid, a biodegradable substance that has been proven safe. It is easily broken down and absorbed, so it does not harm the body.
Common side effects are mild pain, tenderness, swelling and bruising at injection site. Sculptra can also cause small nodules, known as granulomas. These nodules are usually small bumps under the skin that are not visible but can be felt when pressing on treated area. Occasionally, larger bumps may develop which are not serious, but may be aesthetically unpleasant. Larger bumps can be treated with a steroid injection to help minimize the size. It is important to note that these nodules are harmless and are not considered to be a serious adverse event.
Nodules can be avoided by: -correctly reconstituting product -injecting into the correct plane; Sculptra should be injected into the deep dermis not superficially -Patient compliance with massaging treated area for five minutes five times a day for five days post treatment
