Doctor, I want to use Filler to correct my problem. How many syringes do I need?
It is a very common issue and an educational opportunity for the clients that we see all the time in our Boca Raton Med spa clinic when they come in requesting fillers to repair an area by adding more volume. It becomes our duty to highlight to the client that fillers are sold one syringe at a time because when you open a filler syringe, you cannot save it or use it for a later time.
We commonly express that we will utilize the syringe of filler to be applied in the best aesthetically-appealing fashion that would best suit the client’s features. An estimation is usually given to the client before the procedure as to what kind of expected results they should see after applying the filler.
As for post-procedure (usually a day after the injection), almost all the clients are divided into two major groups. The first group of clients would say: “oh my god! Did we use too many fillers Doctor?” The second group of clients would say: “I love the results”.
For the first group of clients our answer would be: “what you see in the second day after the injection is usually double the effect of filler and if you wait for the two weeks for your follow up, then you will see the results settling down and you will end up with the actual amount of filler that you put in initially without any additional edema or swelling”.
As for the second group, these clients usually call in two week post-injection to say: “I have lost my fillers! Or, I was so happy with the fillers the second day after injection but now it seems that the effect had diminished! What went wrong Doctor?”.
The explanation for all these scenarios is that Fillers will swell and show the appearance of injecting 200% of the amount for the next day or two post-procedure. As the swelling, the bleeding and the edema settle down, the final results would be assessed two weeks from the time of injection, and that’s why we always offer a 2 weeks post filler follow up appointments. That’s when you will see the effect of the amount injected and nothing else. Clients who love the results one day after the injection with all the accompanying edema and swelling are most likely to come back later to request additional fillers once the edema and swelling had subsided.
This phenomenon is particularly evident in lip fillers, as most people request a single syringe for their lips. The second day their lips will swell up and show double the volume. Those clients that say: “I had gorgeous lips the second after the injection” they usually get disappointed at the two weeks mark post fillers. That’s when they lose that extra filling effects that were caused by the edema and the swelling accompanied by the procedure itself. These clients regain their happiness by adding a second filler to their lips.
