What Should I Expect On the Day of The Procedure?

On the day of your procedure, you will have a light breakfast, have someone drop you off in our office with your prescribed medications from the day before. You will get comfortable in the office while we prepare the final steps before the procedure. After moving to the procedure room, you will be prepped with Antiseptic material and we would start the local anesthesia. At this time your oral medication would keep you calm and relaxed in almost a sleepy mode (by the way some patients opted out of the sedation so they can be available on their phone during the procedure). We recommend the Oral sedation as it will make things easier for you especially if you are a little anxious about the procedure. Numbing the area is described as the most disturbing part of the whole process. Once you are numbed, the procedure would start using a state of the art and the workhorses of PAL (Power Assisted Liposuction). After 1-2hrs, we dress your insertion sites without sutures, dress the sites for the minimum drain that you will have for the next few days (sometimes less than 24 hours). Then a compression garment will be placed and you will be ready to be picked up. The reason we ask for you to be dropped off and picked up is that we do not want you driving, using a taxi, or Uber while you are sedated for your own safety. People who desire not to be sedated can drive themselves back and forth. Follow up appointments are 1 day, 2 weeks and 3 months from your procedure.

What is the End Goal of the Liposuction?

Typically, liposuction takes out up to 70% of the fat that you have in one session from the area treated. This will give a great opportunity for the skin to retract and give you more tightness.

Will my Skin Sag After the Liposuction?

Opposite to what most people think, Liposuction offers great Skin tightening because the technique we use creates special tunneling to establish significant retraction and tightening of the skin. Usually most people are extremely happy with the retraction that they get. It usually takes few months to see the full results. For those extreme cases, a tummy tuck procedure maybe done later (which is now an easier procedure when it is not mixed with lipo) to perfect the shape or by using other technologies that we have for skin tighening.

How much discomfort will I have after Liposuction?

When you leave our office, the local numbing is still active and giving you comfort for the rest of the day. Most patients take only half or a whole pill of pain killer after the procedure on the same day. The next day most patients feel tender and very, very minimal pain. In fact, one of our patients rode her bike comfortably to come to the office from her hotel (4 miles away) on her next day follow up appointment.

Liposuction with Fat Harvesting

Liposuction with oral sedation is a relatively very safe procedure with minimal down time. Fat extracted can be discarded or, of desired, used to reinject in other areas on the body for volume enhancements. Please check our Fat Transfer Page for more information.

Tumescent Anesthesia

Anesthesia Infiltration. Notice the patients arm, she was browsing her Mobile phone.

Tumescent Anesthesia makes this procedure extremely safe, cutting down bleeding and the need for general anesthesia, Thanks to Dr. Klein who invented this amazing modality.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I have to do after Liposuction?

Lymphatic drainage massages or what is called post-liposuction massages need to be started as soon as possible after the procedure. You may want to take a pain killer pill before the first few sessions as they are not very comfortable. Those massages are essential in achieving great aesthetics results. DO NOT omit them!

When can I go back to work after Liposuction?

You will walk on your feet out of our office. We do not want you to be in bed all day long. In fact, we want you to be mobile and walking. Most patients go back to office type work the next day. Workout and stronger activities can usually resume withing 2 weeks. We like you to start baby steps and to not challenge your body for the first few months.

Can I do multiple areas of Liposuction in one session?

A more accurate answer can be given to you once the doctor has received more information (your weight, height, areas of fat, etc.) from you. This procedure allows for only a certain and safe amount of anesthesia to be used during one session. If most of the anesthesia is used in one part of the body the day of the procedure, not enough will be left over to be used for the other areas making it unsafe, which would mean another day for another session. Other clinics who decide to do the whole body in one session cut corners to be able to finish in one day. In doing so, almost all patients wake up (from general anesthesia) in tremendous pain because not enough numbing/anesthesia was used. Our main goal is to complete the procedure safely and comfortably for our patients.
